My first mixed media portrait, be gentle please.....

Ok ladies, this is my first mixed media portrait. I've been doing this online course for drawing/painting portraits, and this is my first attempt, so please be kind.... I've used several colouring media and I will attempt to describe the process. I started out with sketching the face. The eyes, nose and mouth are stamps that come with the online course. Then I painted the pace with acrylic paints. The hardest part is to get them to blend, quite hard with acrylics. The shading in the face was made with a violet watersoluable wax pastel. The mouth and eyes were coloured in with Derwent pencils and blended with Sansodor (low odour solvent).
Then I coloured in the hair; I used three brown tones of acrylic paint, and in order to get something of a hair structure, I used a dry brushing technique where you take almost all the paint off the brush.
The background colours where made with Creative Inspirations paints in the colours Amethyst,  Plum and Turqoise. These paints are waterbased and have a lovely shimmer which unfortunately doesn't really show up that well on the pictures. The butterflies are Tim Holtz stamps stamped with Royal Purple Stazon.
I mixed up some texture paste with the Turqoise Creative Inspirations paint and used a 6 x 6 Crafters Workshop template named Mini Damask to add some texture.
I added a sentiment that I really felt was fitting for this lady, I thought she looked pretty happy with herself LOL!
And this is the endresult. Hope you like it, I wasn't entirely happy with the placement of the eyes; I will probably place them a little closer to the nose next time. I have another sketch ready for colouring and will try soft pastels on that one.

Gewoon bere goed. Ook je andere journals. Blijf je natuurlujk volgen.
    groetjes Marja
