100 Times Journal on Monday by France Papillon, so here's my step by step tutorial.

I wanted to make a spread in my large Dylusion journal and started by picking out two doublesided papers.

I cut various strips and ended up using only three of the four sides, because one side had some purple in it which I didn't like in combination with the others. I distressed the strips with Stazon since I knew I would be using wet mediums afterwards and didn't want my distressing to run.

I moved the strips over my pages until I had an arrangement which I liked. Then I glued them down with Tacky Glue. I didn't use gel medium because I wanted to work with Bister and the gel medium would work as a resist which I didn't want.

I borrowed a baroque stencil by Donna Downey from my sweet sister Annika (actually, she wasn't here so I just took it LOL), THANKS SWEETY hihi, and used it to create some texture in the background.

Then I created a resist in the background using Antique Linen Distress paint and a stencil made by my friend Astrid (which she sells in her webshop, and she also has brilliant sets of holiday stencils which have a smaller size and are so convenient to take along in your holiday kit, so click here to check them out SB Creatief ).

I decided there still wasn't enough going on in the background so I took a script stamp and Distress Paint Rusty Hinge and stamped some script..

Then came the fun bit; not this Bister stuff is quite new to me; my sister ordered it for us and we have all the colours, but it does take some getting used to. I used mahogany and natural for this page, but the mahogany was much redder than I expected.

So here's the result of the spread with the Bister. For me the contrast between the colour of the background paper and the Bister was too strong so I decided to tune it down with some Lindy's Stamp Gang spray.

After doing so (I used Jolly Roger Red) this was the result. Much better I think.

I did some stamping with the Tim Holtz butterflies.

And I used the stamp with the text from that same set here and there. Both were stamped with Stazon Ganache.

The last touch was distressing the edges of the spread using the same colour of Stazon.

Yesss, I have finished my first Mixed Media Art Journal!!

It is done; my very first finished art journal. I started this journal in March 2013, so it took me a little over a year, but I do work in several journals at the same time, and have joined in various ongoing challenges in between too. Anyhow, this is my last page, and it says: THE END! LOL!!
But every end marks a new beginning, so my next journal is already lying here, ready for me to get started in it.
Now this week I started trying out corroding metal stuff after seeing a toturial by France Papillon on the subject. It worked quite well, and I ended up with some kitchen roll with lovely corrosions stains on it. That was the basis for my page.

Then I sprayed some Lindy's Stamp Gang Moonshadow sprays on: Buccaneer Bay Blue and Treasure Island Aqua which not only enhanced the lovely brown vintage look, but also gave a nice shimmer to my page. I stamped on the background with a script stamp and Stazon Timber brown.

Then I took a strip of watercolour paper and used some green and blue Distress Stains on. I added some leftover plaster bandage which I coloured with tea dye Distress Stain, and stitched through with my sewing machine. I took some die cuts from K & Company, again sprayed some LSG sprays on, inked all the edges with Walnut stain and stamped 'the end' on the smaller tag and wrote: 'Every end marks a new beginning' with a brown felttip pen on the larger one. I glued down the thread used for stitching with mat gel medium.

I hope you like my final spread in this album, I was pretty pleased with it myself (blush)..........

Goodness me, it is so hot.........

It is just too hot for anything. Keeping doors and windows closed just to keep the heat outside and hiding in my craft room. So, here's another spread for the Round Robin I have entered into. I started this on with a layer of gesso, and then randomly and very sloppily putting blue paint down on my page. Now someone gave me some page from a really old French encyclopedia and I tore them and glued them down with mat gel medium.

I added some modeling paste through a stencil and after drying rubbed some Inca Gold Hematite on.Then I stamped some background stuff on with metallic blue paint. Around the pieces of bookpage I added some shading with an Inktense pencil and then I took out my sewing machine and did some sewing on the pages. Some with a straight stitch, some with a zigzag.

Now since the bookpages were in French, I felt I needed a  nice quote in French; don't you just love that beautiful French language?! And then I found the translation for one of my favourite quotes and it means: It doesn't really matter whát you say, it's hów you say it that's important. Something which is just só true! Your tone of voice can make a world of difference don't you think?! I glued some leftovers from my pages onto cardstock and sprayed with Lindy's Stamp Gang Starburst spray. Then I stamped the text on. I distressed the edges before gluing them down.

Is it July already?? Time for holiday woop woop!!!!

Finally, the schoolyear has ended and I have a 6 week holiday. I'm still trying to get my head around the fact that I don't have to get up in the morning, well, not as early as normally anyway!
So I managed to get a lot of work done over the weekend. I finished two Round Robin layouts, did three ICADs for the Craftorij Summer Challenge, ánd I did my July calendar spread. I'm so proud of me LOL!!
I wonder what I will show you first........
Let's start with one of my Round robin spreads, because I tried something new here. Love the effect, but hate the material.... It's is by Lindy's Stamp Gang and called: fusible web. I really think I could get the stuff in a shop for sewing stuff too, but anyhow. You're supposed to put it down on your paper, heat it with the heatgun, and it will basically melt and should adhere to the paper. Now this last bit is tough, because the stuff moves all over the paper and doesn't want to attach itsself, so I ended up pushing it down with my fingers which is pretty hot. Then, while it's still hot you should dump some embossing powder on top and melt it again.
LOVE LOVE LOVE the effect, but boy it's a heck of a job!

Oh, and note to self: don't blow with your heatgun while having the jar of glitter embossingpowder open LOL!!

I started out by gessoing the page. Then I stamped Tim Holtz stamps with pearl embossingpowder. I then sprayed with some Lindy's Starburst sprays which give a nice shimmer. Then the fun started with the fusible web.

As I said; love the result, but it's murder working the stuff! I stamped with a script stamp and Distress ink Frayed Burlap on the background for some interest. I also distressed the edges with this colour. The splatters were made with sepia coloured Ecoline. You can actually see some of the gorgeous shimmer of the LSG Starburst sprays here.

Art Journal Page 18 Follow Friday 11-07-2014 with new Steampunk Gelatos!

Back from being away.....

Just a short post, because I have been (and am) soooo busy. Short but sweet: we've made ourselves a new bathroom which kept us pretty busy for about 4 weeks. And of course it's the end of the schoolyear, which us the busiest time of the year for us teachers.
Anyhow, I was way behind with my calendar, so here's June.

I did some stamping in the backgroundbefore spraying it with Lindy's Stamp Gang sprays. Love the colours; Cotton Candy Pink and Jolly Roger red. En because I needed some more brown I also used Dark Chocolate Trufle.

So how do you like the paper I used for the days?? Such a lovely vintage appearance.

I really tried to catch the shimmer, but it's so hard to get it to show up in my pictures. The little white thingies were made using gel medium through a stencil. It works as a resist.
